Sherron Thomas McClain

  • “I joined the Farrington firm because I wanted to do what I was doing – practicing employment law at a high level – but in a boutique environment that is poised to meet the rapidly evolving needs of many employers."
    – Sherron Thomas McClain

Sherron Thomas McClain is counsel at the firm, where she focuses her practice on employment-related litigation and regulatory matters.  She has defended claims brought before federal courts and regulatory agencies under a variety of federal and state employment statutes, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. In 2014 and 2015, Sherron was the principal author of the petitioner’s briefs in SW  General, Inc. v. National Labor Relations Board, which persuaded the D.C. Circuit to find—in a matter of first impression—that the acting general counsel for the NLRB was improperly nominated and thus the unfair labor practices complaint issued against the petitioner by the NLRB was invalid.

Sherron also routinely counsels employers on matters such as complying with employment laws, managing the hiring and termination process, developing personnel policies and procedures, creating employment-related agreements, conducting internal investigations of employee complaints, and responding to claims of wrongful termination and discrimination.

“I joined the Farrington firm because I wanted to do what I was doing – practicing employment law at a high level – but in a boutique environment that is poised to meet the rapidly evolving needs of many employers,” Sherron says.

Sherron graduated summa cum laude from Spelman College in 2002, where she earned her B.A.  She received her J.D. from Columbia Law School in 2005, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.  Before joining the firm, Sherron was an associate at three large firms – Littler Mendelson, Jones Day, and Cooley. She practiced in the areas of employment law and commercial litigation.

We believe that the best litigation strategy is often to avoid litigation. We work closely with our clients to avoid litigation by advising them on their obligations under common law and under federal statutes such as the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans With Disabilities Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and a host of state and local employment laws. We help employers minimize the risk of employee and government lawsuits through careful compliance with these laws.
